The Gumbo Limbo also known as Copperwood is native to tropical regions of the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, and the Caribbean. We have trained the Gumbo Limbo into the striking root over rock style. The bark is shiny dark red & is comically referred to as the 'Tourist Tree' because the trees bark is red & peeling, like the skin of sun burnt tourists, who are a common sight in the plants range. The tree yields some ripe fruit year round, main the main fruiting season is March & April. Birds also seek out the fruit and seeds. Gumbo Limbo wood is suitable for light construction & as fire wood. The trees resin called chibou is used as glue varnish & incense. Gumbo Limbo wood is the traditional wood used for the manufacture of carousel horses in the United States. Does well indoors.
