Mock Orange Bonsai Tree
(philadelphus lewisii)

Named for the naturalist/explorer Meriwether Lewis who collected this specimen during his exploration of the Louisiana Purchase in 1806. Native to Idaho, California and Montana and the state flower of Idaho. The leaves of the Mock Orange are opposite with serrated margins. The flowers are white with four petals and sepals and are sweetly scented. The fruit is a small capsule containing numerous small seeds. The bark is thin and flaken and sheds in strips. Deciduous. Keep outdoors.
